Description
The SmartElex SGP40 Air Quality Sensor Breakout is based on the Sensirion SGP40 digital VOC sensor for monitoring volatile organic compounds in indoor environments. It uses a metal-oxide (MOx) sensing element with a temperature-controlled micro-hotplate and provides digital data through an I2C interface.
The sensor provides a raw VOC signal that can be processed using Sensirion’s Gas Index Algorithm to generate a VOC Index from 1–500. It also supports on-chip humidity compensation when humidity data is provided, making it suitable for indoor air-quality monitoring, air purifiers, ventilation systems, IoT devices and environmental sensing projects.

I2C Interface: Provides a digital I2C interface for convenient communication with microcontrollers and development boards. Humidity Compensation: Supports humidity-compensated VOC measurements when humidity information is supplied to the sensor. Fast Response: Offers a typical VOC response time of less than 10 seconds under specified test conditions. 6mA, making it suitable for low-power embedded applications.
6V supply voltage range. Compact Sensor: Uses a highly compact sensing element suitable for space-constrained air-quality monitoring devices. Wide Applications: Suitable for air-quality monitors, air purifiers, ventilation systems, IoT devices, environmental monitoring and smart-home projects.
